research man. velvet too perfect any ideas

Submitted by Tom on 6/15/06 at 2:43 PM. ( ) 64.61.208.254

I recently had Research Mannikins put velvet on a whitetail rack with their velvet service (we've all seen the adds) I like it but it is too perfect, anyone found a way to make these things look a little more life like or realistic

Drag it behind your car?

You know, Tom, that about caps it off. SOMEONE didn't like the antlers OUT of velvet so you used the only facility that CAN REPLACE the velvet look and they did too good of a job. Is it Friday yet?

little cranky?

I was looking for a strait answer not some comments from the peanut gallery. looking to make it more lifelike not destroy it sorry for paying attention to detail, besides rack has sat in the sun outside for 35 plus years best way to restore it!

Velvet

Try scraping off a little velvet at the tips and on some of the likely to be rubbed tines and touch up with some airbrush work to make discolorations.

Easy

Just rough up the tips a little bit. Rough up a few other spots to your liking. Then air brush some light veins in and they look much better than the mono tone as recieved antlers.

Careful now

The deer I see in velvet usually look perfect, this is live and pics. Unless it's fall when they start to rub and pieces are hanging, which probably can't be duplicated with artificial coating. Ask your customer to approve or not on the coating. After they have hung awhile after the mount is finished will probably age them any way.

Call them

I am not being a $mart @$$ when I say this .

It's just a thought, but you could always call Research Mannikins and ask them about it. Maybe it is something they could offer the next time .

They could have two different looks to offer then.
