rehydrating mount

i mounted a deer on friday this is now sunday, i notices the nose pad placement was off from the start and the more i looked at it, it bothered me more. I was wondering if its too late to try to rehydrate and move now? i used buckeye hyde past and bagged the deer every night to slow down the drying process.

Nose pad

Whenever I get to the end of mounting anything I have found it is best to walk away from it for a couple of hours just to get my mind off of it. I return a little later and then check it over real good. It is easier to see flaws after you have left it for a while. Sometimes there is a tiny something that I noticed just as I was mounting that I think I will get back to later and forget. Going over the fresh mount again sometimes will jog my poor memeory. I also like to look at the whole mount ina mirror (full size mirror) It tricks you into seeing things in just a little different view. As for the Buckeye Hide paste, sorry I don't use it so I am not familiar with its set-up time.

Wrap it

in a wet towel & a plastic bagit will probably rehydrate in 6-8 hours see if you can seperate the skin from the form a little & inject a little water if you can. This is not a big deal have done it more than I care to admit. actually since you had it bagged it may not even take the 6-8 hours keep checking it periodically.

What about one 2 yrs. old?

I started a few years back and practiced on my own trophies. Since then, experience and tips from this site have vast improved my skills. I desprately wish to go back and rehydrate a 2 year old DP mount. Through a search, I found that I need to use Kemo-4 to help relaxe the hide. Will I be able to rehydrate it enough to remount it? It currently is a left turn but I want it straight on. Thanks.

Start over

Your better off getting new cape and starting fresh! I have a few that I would like to remount also. But I still have my first deer mount to serve as a reminder of how far I've come and how much better the forms have gotten.
