Joe Coombs Eyes with Nictitating Membranes

Submitted by Brian on 7/9/06 at 10:55 PM. ( ) 71.232.73.255

Has anyone had any experience with the eyes available from Joe Coombs
that have the nictitating membrane built right in. They look nice but have never use them just thought I would get others opinions. Would they be acceptable for competition work?

I thought they would, I was wrong. They look super, but too much white shows on the back edge of the eye, causing the deer to look cross eyed, according to the judge. Jodi Green had the same thing happen to him, he told us this once in a seminar. This is in the archives somewhere, and covered before.

tryed them did not like them

The only eye that I use along with his forms. The Meder eyes are also very good.

in my comp. deer. Took a 1st at the world show in 2005 with those eyes. Next time you have a fresh deer in front of you, study Joe's eye with a good light and compare. Best comp eye out there in my oppinion.

Deerman, use black Apoxie Sculpt

Shape them with a sculpting tool and brush them out with a sable brush and Apoxie Solvent. I wouldn't use electric tape as it has a tendency to shrink and it becomes brittle with age. Anything used to clean the eye down the road is likely to disbond the contact cement holding it in place. The Apoxie is forever.

I use apoxie as well...

..but that has probably as much to do with my own mounting inconsistencies as anything. That flat sable brush is a magic wand if you've never tried one.

Good showroom Matt.
