I would like to get a few mature mule deer buck death masks to do some studies on. I will try and get some this fall from customers, but would like several to choose from. Also, I want to get all of the hair off the face prior to casting, has anyone used anything to get hair to drop out of a fresh dead deer?
Thanks, Steve

what a death mask is?
Chris Barnhardt (sp?) has an article in the most recent issue of Taxidermy Today Magazine on doing death masks for a raccoon. If I remember correctly he was using a hair remover similar to Nair purchased from adrug store, etc. Sorry, can't remember the product name. Its possible this would work on a deer as well.
a death mask is basically a casting of a dead animal's face, a reference used in mounting and creating new forms.
