sculpting earbuds before mounting

Submitted by jason cook on 7/15/06 at 3:50 PM. ( jbscook@sbcglobal.net ) 70.246.236.238

I have heard of guys setting the earliners and sculpting the earbuds prior to mounting. If i understood them correctly they then cut them off in a v-shape for easy alignment when mounting. It sounds like it would be easier to shape the earbuds correctly doing it this way. I use the bondo-method myself, is this possible to do using bondo-method. Im just looking for some feedback, thanks.

I just have to ask...

Where are these "earbuds" you speak of, anywhere near the eyekernels?

Yes, when I sculpt earbutts along with liners, I then cut them in a knotch so it lines up better later. I dont see how you would do this with the bonded method, as you wont have a "assembly" to cut off and reattach, see what I mean? With a liner, you make the butt using the liner, then cut it off as an assembly, then literally mount the line with a butt attached, to the skin.

sorry

earbuds are the first stage of developement for cauliflower ears. Eyekernels are where Pop Eye popcorn comes from. If there's anything else I can do to help you out, just let me know.

when doing bondo ears. First take a pair of buttless ear liners, drill a small hole through the bottom, pin with a long pin or piece of wire into the hole you have dug out to accept the bondo base. Shape your muscles with clay. Remove liner & insert bondo butt. Now this isnt going to fit exactly because the bondo butt will be a little larger. you may have to add or remove some clay, but your your basic shape will be there & you will have the same amount of clay in both butts so your symetry (sp) should be O K.
How did I do on that one Bill? not too bad for a Hog guy I hope.LOL.

yeah but...

I just started using a method where I sculpt the earbuts using "clayshay". I use mostly liners with the buts attached but I cut the butt off. Trim the liner to fit then I use a rolled up piece of cardboard or as Glen likes to use "Pop-Art" and sculpt in the inner ear with apoxi sculpt. I then dig a small hole in the form to fit my new earliner and sculpt the earbut with clayshay. I let it sit over night and the next day I use a jig saw blade to cut out the earbutt and about 1/4" of foam around the front, back and bottom. When I am done it looks kinda like the top of a jack-o-lantern. Reinstall the earliner in the cape and glue it to the form with 90min. epoxy. It cannot be moved up or down, or side to side. and it sets up hard over night. With the small amount of extra foam I cut away I can use shawl pins to hold it in place while it dries.
