Just wanted to know where some of you buy your salt from. Ive been using a fine stock salt from a local feed store, and it seems to work fine but its really dirty, makes the pickle look like muddy water. I dont know if this matters or knot.

Hi
I get my salt in 50 pound bags at a local farm supply store. It is called 'mixing salt'. It is fine and white in color. I believe that dairy farmers mix it in with their cattle feed. I know that they also sell a brown colored 'mineral salt'. Maybe the darker salt is what you're using to make your pickle look 'muddy'. The white stuff that I buy is only $3.99 per bag and is clear in a pickle.
Hope this helps some.
Steve

Just because the bag says it is stock salt, you have to ask if it is the fine white stock salt.I wasted a whole day calling around to different feed companies and farmers co-ops that had said yes it is what you want, but it wasn't.Stay away from the grayish dirty looking salt because you will end up with very dirty water.
