Hide paste mess

Is it just me, or does anybody else here get hide paste all over the place when you work on a deer head. I can't mount a deer without getting hide paste all over the cape, the same goes for earliner adhesive. I try to be careful, but it just never fails lol.

Hide Paste

Nina when I do a deer head I will only apply paste on 1/3 of the manikin and that's the neck area. I slide the cape on and then pull up the brisket area, pin it and apply the paste. From there you just unpin it and lay it over the paste with no mess.
Then I will do the clay work on my ears and eyes, apply the paste, then pull the face over that. Sew a small area and applu paste on a small brush by going under the sewn area. This will help prevent paste from going all over your work.

Same here

I paste only the neck to begin with, then slip hide on form, install antlers, set eyes, apply paste to facial area, then slide the face on and sew up Y incision. Then turn the form down, invert cape back over neck, and put hide paste on brisket area. Then alingn brisket and staple it to back. No mess this way either. I use Derma Grip. If it gets on hair, let it dry and comb it out. Matter of fact, it is a good paste to hold down unruly hair that will not lay down.

Me too...

I use full length incision and only paste the head and most of the neck. Then when I get it all sewed up, I flip the shoulder and brisket forward and apply the paste, then realign and staple.
