Hey guys..need a little help. what is the correct procedure when cleaning, and getting the mount ready for customer. unless im doing something wrong earlier on in the process, when finished mounting it will be sticky and hair is matted together(ect...) I just finished my 4th deer head, and this is an important one. this is an actuall paying customer. I Think this one turned out pretty well. Besides combing it, and wiping it down, are there any other methods of washing it? Any help is appreciated.

oil residue

sounds like a wet tan with oil residue in the hair ,are you tanning or sending out to be tanned ? Before mounting wash any skin that is a wet tan to remove the oil residue from the hair ,NOW I Don't mean soap washing as this can loosen the hair and some times react with the tanning agent used, just put in a sink or bucket of cool water and swish it around 5 or 10 minutes then spin in the washer to remove the water from the hair, This is all done hair side out.

Wash it before you mount it

Sounds like you have a lot of tanning oil in the hair. You should have washed the cape with some kind of shampoo like Pert before mounting it. Check the archives about washing the cape before mounting and see what other people have used. You could still wash it after it's mounted - again, check the archives as this was discussed only a few weeks ago.

Let's see a picture of your 4th deer that "turned out pretty well." I want to see what your giving your paying customer. How much is your customer paying you?

will post pic when finish work is done

Bob, To answer your question, I really dont have a price list due to the fact that I am new to this, and have no experience doing it. Eventually I would like to make 300-350 for a shoulder mount. However, I will expect to be paid for my time. I will post a picture of my 4th deer head when all finish work is done. Im sure all of you can pic it apart since most of you do comp work, but as far a comercial work is concerned, I dont think it looks bad. I mainly think that because i compare this one to my first one, and its amazing to me, how much better it is. Thanks for responding to original ?
