Hey I'm about to try and mount my first blacktail deer. It's a buck I killed about ten months ago. The cape has been frozen the whole time, and I'm wondering, are the ears still ok to work with? By the way I just found this site and I'm looking foreward to learning from it. Thanks.

Check the orange search button, and type in "stop rot".
Cool salt water injected with a syringe works good as well, but read up and you'll find what you're lookin for.
The cape should be fine if it was skinned out fresh and sealed up in a heavy plastic bag and froze. If the bag had holes in or not closed or sealed tight it could be a little freezer burned (dry). As far as stop rot it shouldn't be necessary on a cape skinned and bagged properly. I just pulled a 2 spare wt capes out of the freezer fron 2-1/2 years ago and one from last fall and they were all fine.
