is there a simple way to preserve a humming bird? I found one that had flown into a glass door and I guess broke its neck. Its been dead for over a week and at this point has no smell of rot. I hate to just throw it out. Is there any way other than taxidermy to keep it. Thanks Ray

That it's legal for you to keep it. I think it might fall into a category of birds that cannot be kept or possessed. I'm not sure though. After a week probably better to just bury it any ways.
I'm not going to lecture you on the rules of possession, but in all likelihood, you're probably not supposed to be in possession of a Hummer. I know it seems to be a shame because you found it dead, but the USFWS doesn't see it that way. Best bet for you is to leave it where you found it. If you use the orange search button to the left, you'll probably find a few other posts on the subect. So your question on how to preserve it becomes a moot point. Sorry Ray.
Yes Ray , its illegal to have . You didnt say if its been in the freezer , frig or just left out for a week . Something that small would just dry up if left out in this heat . Call you local nature center or a school , college etc . These places are allowed to have them . Otherwise you have to throw it away or pay a big fine if you get caught . Rick
