I have just one question which is probably easily answered and in the archives somewhere but I cant seem to find it. Anyways my question is when your doing a whitetail do you have to use a septum. Like I said I know this is probably and easy question but I am new and going to do my first whitetail shoulder mount this year. I bought a Dan Rinehart mounting video and he used the speed septum, but I didnt know what the point of puting in the septum was. Thanks For anyhelp, and please if all your going to do is tell me that I am stupid or something then dont reply cause im tired of hearing crap for asking a question. Thanks Again

No you don't have to use a septum at all. The reason one is used is because we are tying to recreate what the animal has like ears, eyes and ofcouse a septum.
Now there are many different ways of doing one but the speed septum is on of the quickest ways of doing one and looks nice when done.
Remember most how to videos, books, schools, etc. have an agenda, selling supplies, lessons, more videos etc. This isn't necessaily bad but make your own decisions on purchases.
speed septum when you first get form ready to mount. Before you ruff it up. Directions can be found on the McKenzie website. Very easy and simple. Point it out to customers and friends so they know you do those "little extras". You do not need it, but it won't hurt. GL
I also takin the textured area of a milk jug cut it about 1.5" wide and 5-6" long. take a small red felt tiped pin and draw lines to represent veins. then paint it flesh. fold it in half so that the paint is to the inside and cut you hole and insert into form. that has worked for me before i stared using a speed septum. The speed septum looks great and is a real time saver!.
Your video is part of the problem. Cut some depth to it and just texture the foam.
