Hi
I am looking for suggestions on what to use on a finished whitetail mount to hide some damage on the brisket. The deer was obviously dragged out and the brisket has major hair damaged and/or missing. I'm thinking that I could attach something to the brisket to hide that damage (maybe driftwood, branches. etc). I've never done it, but I'm sure many of you have a simple suggestion.
Much appreciated.

Steve,
Just by chance I'm finishing up a project for myself on a nice 10 point in a full sneak position. It's already on the wall and I'm putting a piece of driftwood underneath of the head with artifical tall brown grass and some other foliage attached. I spread the foliage out on the back of the driftwood and held it in place by screwing metal straps across it. When on the wall it could be adjusted to hide the brisket. Hope that helps, good luck.

Thanks Mike. I was thinking driftwood with some type of artificial grass, but not sure how to attach to the mount. Anyone know of a place where I might find some pictures of wall mounts with this type of habitat on it?
On a side note, Mike are you from Wisconsin? I know a Mike Schuda from just north of LaCrosse.
Steve,
No, I'm from New Jersey. I must have a double somewhere!(poor guy!) By the way, I don't attach the wood to the mount. I have a hanger on each end of the driftwood and just hang it by itself under the deerhead. That way you can change the position according to your taste. The straps I was talking about come from any hardware store and are in different lenghts. I usually use ones that are about 1/2 to an inch wide and four to six inches long. They come with two to four predrilled holes in them. Just use them to clamp the grass to the back of the driftwood.

Why didn't you fix the cape before you mounted it? I think a patch job would look better than branches etc underneath it.
Drew,
Steve said there was "major" damage to the brisket. The hair patterns right on the brisket would difficult to match. By the way, these aren't "branches" underneath, we use different artificial grass, autumn leaves on stems etc and when done right it gives the illusion of a deer looking through the foliage. I got the idea after seeing mounts like this in some major sporting goods stores.

Hi
I certainly would have fixed the cape first, but the two damaged areas were way too big to cut and sew to fix. Why not just get a replacement cape you ask. This was a BIG deer and the face, ears, neck, etc were perfectly fine. It is a beautiful mount (wall pedestal), but right above both 'arm pits' have areas rubbed off. I think using some nice habitat will fix the problem.
