Deer season started here today.

Deer season started here today. Although it is way too early to tell how the season is going to be, the deer were all healthy. Some years they are showing signs of wear and tear after a hard summer. Also, everyone who brought in a deer to be processed saw more than one deer. No one wanted shoulder mounts yet, but I did pick up a couple of horn mounts and a couple of spare summer capes.
I have learned a lot from this site, and would like to thank everyone who posts here.

We have the longest season, but some of the smallest deer to go with the long season. The biggest deer we got in yesterday was a 180 lb 10 pt. and that's about as big as they get except for a rare few who top 200 by a few lbs. Keep in mind that is live weight, not field dressed weight.

I used to live over by the BOMB Plant and I do miss the liberal season there. It was the push to bow hunting for me. Wild pigs were fun too!

in S.C. it was unlimited bucks on private lands. Two bucks per day on Management Land. May have changed in the past 7-8 years?

still unlimited bucks

Still unlimited, though they have been trying to change it lately. Does are limited to 4 per year, but there are a dozen or so "antlerless" deer days where you can shoot does without tags.
And, yes, bow hunting is becoming more and more popular.

Here in Texas it's a LONG way 'till deer season

At least temperature wise. We were at 102 degrees
today and with no change in sight. The Hill Country
is baked and too hot to be out in a T shirt in the shade.
It's too hot to even think about messing with a pig.
The deer are just trying to survive the heat so it's kinda
hard to get in the hunting mode when you feel sorry for
them, like we're all enduring this together.
Counting the days 'till the first cool front
blows in.

Where are you Robert?

It is HOT HOT HOT and then some! I feel sorry for the folks in South Dakota though, about a month ago it was 112 in Pierre. Those folks just aren't used to that kind of heat. Last season was actually too warm for most of my customers all season long. They don't like to rush that fast get the animal skinned, quartered, and bagged without losing the cape or the meat.
