REmoving hide from burrs with velvet

I am having doubts about the way I am getting the hide removed from the antler burrs on deer in velvet. Should I cut around the base of the burr to seperate the hide from the velvet? I have tried that and ended up with a somewhat ragged edge. The few I have done out of velvet, I used a screw driver, but that seemed to stretch out the hide.
Also, I will have a few spare summer capes for sale. If anyone is looking for a specific size summer cape, I will try to find one for you.

You just need to

go slow, I just caped one in velvet and I skin them the same way I do all my wt, but when going around the burr line I make a nice clean cut and separate the burr from the actual hair line. It is alittle more of a challenge, but if you take your time and watch your cuts, you'll be fine. Good luck.

I wonder if I put a thin wire around the antler burr and pulled it tight, maybe I could get a better circle to start with? I have six or so to practice with today, so maybe I'll get the hang of it.
