Deer hide question

I've got a fallow deer hide that was given to me by the taxidermist I work with. I tanned the skin myself and let it dry in the garage. It had a strong odor from the tanning oil as it dried. It also smelled a bit musky for some reason, but that seems to have gone away. Anyway, every day when my dad came home from work he'd spray Lysol all over the skin. (He'd literally drench the thing in Lysol, and sometimes Febreeze, too) This morning I noticed that the hair was starting to slip off of parts of the hide. Could this be caused by the Lysol and/or febreeze sprays?

I'm not sure about the Febreeze?

But I don't thank the Lysol would cause it. Unless it was so strong it some how killed the tan? not sure? I use a Lysol/water mix (more water than Lysol) in a sray bottle to keep my capes hydrated while mounting them. What tanning method did you use?

Tanning method

I used the Van Dykes syn-oil tanning kit to tan the hide. I've used the same tan on many skins, all with good results. This was my first deer hide, though.

I noticed on the Febreeze bottle, it says 'Not reccomended for use on leather'... I get the feeling that's what messed it up.
