What happened to tow?

I am just now getting back into taxidermy after a long lay off of some thirty years. I am replacing my supplies but I can't find any tow in any of the catalogs. This is what I always used for wrapping legs and wings. Can anyone tell me where to find some or what they are now using for a replacement. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Terry, did you check our archives?

It's under that orange SEARCH icon in the left margin. We've discussed this in length, but to spare you this time, Tow as you knew it no longer exists. Tow was made commercially from hemp. The same genus of plant that marijuanna comes from and to separate the two was often tedious and time consuming for a drug wary America. It was taken of the market long LONG ago. You can still buy "jewelers tow" which is made from crushed flax weed. It's going to be expensive. Get used to stepping through a worm hole into the future. Polyfill and yarn are the materials used today, IF ANYTHING. Many of us now use caulking instead.

Thanks a lot for the information George, and also for pointing out the search button. This is my first time on the site. I tried it and found it to be very useful. Anyway I'm sure I will have lots more questions in the future. I'll be checking this web site regularly and hope to come back in the main stream. Thanks again. Terry

It it's not already on this site in the archives, there's always someone here who'll help. But if it's not in the archives, it's likely something you don't need anyway. LOL. Good luck.

You might be able to get some if you can find some old couches that someone is throwing away . They used to use it for insulation between the springs . Rick
