Have deer legs, kids will help, now what?

A friend donated four fresh deer legs. We would like to use them for a Father/Son/Daughter craft. We're thinking of a rack for hats etc.. I don't have any special tools, but I do have a sharp saw! Looking for an easy economical way to prepare the legs and hooves. Prefer "home remedies". Can you help?

Home Remedies

Jim,
Home remedies are OK for colds, but remember, they seldom work there either. To use anything less (than a good manniken, skin the leg out completely, dry preserve OR tan, sew it up, and bolt it on), is inviting odor problems, extreme shrinkage, and dermistids that will eat all your mounts. If you want to try it the way taxidermists do it, email me and I'll give you toll free numbers of Suppliers and stock numbers for items you will need. Some folks don't like to hear me say this, but we aren't exactly rocket scientists. You can do it the correct way and it will last a lifetime.
