Dry preservative vs tanning

Submitted by Henry on 11/22/99. ( )

I have only mounted one dear head and used dry preservative. From what I have read, dry preservative is mostly used by beginners and that tanning is the more common method for commercial taxidermists. Is this true? Are mounts with dry preserved capes just as good?

DP versus Tanning

Dry Preservative has a place in every taxidermy shop. By and large, though, it is not accepted as the best way to mount deer and other large fur/hair hided animals. There are dozens of commercial taxidermists who use it on all their mounts. You need to take a trip back into the archives to hear all the previous discussions on this subject.
