The archives has this but, here's a quickie-take all the meat off, turn the ears, split lip&eye salt it dry it send it.

Salt twice -- salt after the initial fleshing, next day shake off the salt and apply another layer of salt, hang to dry then ship to the tannery. It costs less to ship dry hides.
