? about walleye eyes

Submitted by gus on 6/14/01. ( gustaxidermy@hotmail.com )

I need some tips on getting the correct shape of walleye eyes, or any fish for that matter. I've casted the head of a walleye for reference but I just can't seem to get the correct shape. I am using just a flat eye frome vandykes no wire. do I use a smaller eye and use an epoxy to fill in the upper lid? I know there is something I'm missing and I can't get it to come out right.
please send me some Ideas

First off you will never get the look your trying to get with flat eyes. You really need to spend a few more bucks and get yourself a quality eye.Just with this the shaping of the eye gets easier.

Now you said you made a cast, was this from a fresh fish or one from the freezer? You need a really fresh fish and some good reference photos to see what your trying to do.

As far as he eye size goes, it's just the iris only not the sarotic capsule. Far to many folks measure the whole eye and get the incorrect eye for their fish. This makes the fish look bug eyed and you can't make the sarotic capsule this way. Study the fish more closely and you will be able to correct this.

Eye lids?

Or are you talking about the capsule. Since a fish cannot close their eyes, and sleep with them open, what are you talking about?
