Buying Plster of Paris in bulk?

Submitted by MIke on 4/8/05 at 7:51 PM. ( )

I was at Home Depot last night and decided to check on buying a large bag of plaster of paris. All the man in the paint department knew they had were small boxes, I think 2.5 lbs. Should I be asking for this under a different name? Has anyone ever bought is in a large bag at Home Depot or Lowes?

I paid $6.86 for it just yesterday, but had a helluva time finding it. In the store I went to, it was in the ADHESIVES section for some reason. I suspect since it's marketed by DAP, they keep the DAP delivery guy from having to cart it all over the store.

get it at lowes, what george says. sorta funny how a 25lb bag is $6.86 and the next size smaller in a gal bucket is only $2 or so cheaper.

your probly right George.....I couldn't remember what I paid I knew it was pretty cheap though. Maybe it was 6.88 (7 bux). The were out when I went the other day and neede some so I bought 3 of the buckets (8 lb ea.) and they gave it to me for the same price as a 25 lb sack.

Try to locate a store that sells drywall. They usually have it in
100lb bags, or can order it for you. I buy it for about 12-15 $ per 100lb from a company called Capitol Supply.
Good luck

in 100 lb. bags from a building supply that supplies dental labs. Cost is about $25.00 per bag. I go through a lot of bags in a year as I mount all my panfish using a modified version of the half cast method.

We buy ours at a local pottery. Runs around $13.00 for 100 lbs.
