starting a fish

when you thaw a fish in water before the mount is there a certain chemical that you put in it for perservitive. or do you just use a fungalcide before you paint.

such as the Breakthtrough fish Taxidermy manual or some hands on instruction. I'm concerned you really haven't prepared yourself if you're asking basic questions like this.

In answer to your question, after the fish is thawed regardless of how it's thawed it's skinned and throughly cleaned next. Once that is done it's placed in a solution of your choice depending on which solution you choice i.e. borax/lysol solution or 50/50 denatured alcohol and water. Of course if it's one of the oily species it should be degreased before it goes into your solution.
