Ahhh, one less headache in my life! I use to frown against "store bought" salmon and trout heads. Until of course I actually tried their stuff! They can make them CHEAPER than I can. They can do them QUICKER. And they can do them BETTER than I. No more casting heads unless I have to!
Thanks Guys!

But one person on here is adament you it's cheaper to make them yourself. I just can't see it.
products are great. They are they edge to your fish mounts.
Yea well Cecil some of us prefer not to "paint by numbers" and use our God given abilities. Sorry if that offends you. I told you why and how I think it is cheaper. I will bet you one thing, I make more per inch profit off my fish then you do. I know what you charge LMAO
DaveT
When I do have to use an artifical head I use Caribou or would use Bruch. I would also look at David Cambell's fishheads.
DaveT
There's been more than one person on here that pooh poohed using commercially available heads for commercial work. Even if I was talking about you, can you say it's CHEAPER to cast your own heads? That was the point Marty made and so did I.
I'm not going to get into the, "I'm a better taxidermist than you and I make more blah blah blah crap. I don't care to and I don't need to.
...or at least some money as I would suspect they don't do this for a loss. Then why couldn't Dave make them cheaper? If he's made some master's for the various sizes and basically is all set up to pour, then it probably is cheaper. BUT, for me I have too much of a variety of head sizes to justify casting each and every fish head. AND, I'm not as well versed nor as talented as these guys when it comes to casting and molding, period. So, for me it's clearly cost-effective. And their quality is better (than mine) so my customer's get a better final product...
It in not just how much you make per inch. It is what you get paid for your time and effort. I could custom cast my own forms from fish and make up a story about how much better I am than anybody else. I would probalby never use the mold again. Not a good use of my time or money. One can buy great molds and heads from folks who have an inventory. It is what they do.Not everyone needs, wants, or appreciates a Cadillac, and most do not have the luxury of equating price with quality. You probably make more per inch than I do too. So what? Pricing varies widely around the country, and one has to stay competitive with what goes on locally. I could raise my prices and be a snot about it publicly, and lose plenty of business from Joe Average which I do not want to do. So, save the hot air.
You lied again, just got off your other post.
Yes I CAN say it is cheaper Cecil. If it were not so then no one would be doing it. It costs me a little over 5 bucks in material to cast a custom head that fits my hand carved body. I could do it cheaper if I use plaster. One thing your non-business mind fails to calculate is the difference we get for our fish. You were getting 4.50 for wholesale fish LMAO I routinely get 10.00 to 12.00 for my wholesale fish and 17.00 for retail. You keep doing what you are doing OK
DaveT
My customers are seldom located in state, your business savy is lacking. I do not even live anywhere near good fishing.
DaveT
$4.50! I DON'T THINK SO! I get $8.00 finished and with my regular work I get $11.00 per inch. I have no idea where you got the from. Hell for all I know you're not even looking at the right website.
There you go with the liar thing again. Pretty sad.
and I thought I was a trouble maker, LOL!
