Beginning Fish Carving

I've purchased a book by Bob Berry and also searched the archives here. To begin with I intend to practice carving fins, heads, etc... out of pieces of basswood I can get from Michaels Craft Store. Once I feel like I can produce an acceptable fish, I'll move to ordering an airbrush and practicing with it.

I have gotten a lot of good information to start. However, I still have a few questions for those out there that carve:

1.) I already have a craftsmen rotary tool with a variety of aluminum oxide grinding tips in various shapes and sizes, however, I would like to get a few hand carving tools. What types/brands of carving gouges/knives would be adequate to get started?

2.) I am going to invest in a bandsaw (not just for this hobby) and am thinking about purchasing one from Grizzly. What blade type would be optimal for roughing out a fish blank?

3.) After reading what seems to be a neverending debate on the best airbrush, I have decided to go with a Paasche H (single action) to start. However I would like to know how far an ounce of paint will go before I order some paint to go with it?

Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Greg I don't know if you have been to this site but Ed Walicki is a great carver and teacher of wood carving. He has a site that you might be interested in. www.FishCarver.com . There is quite alot of info on the site and Ed is a super nice guy. He will have a better and cheaper place to buy your wood. He also has a listing of classes and availability good luck.
