I need to mount a 40" Northern taking a 15" walleye from the side(thats how the guy caught them). Also he wants the spiny dorsal on the walleye to be straight up poking the northerns upper mouth. Would it be easier to mount the northern and paint it first, then mount the walleye in its mouth? Just wondering how some of you more experienced taxidermists would go about this. Thanks.

When you add the walleye, try to picture the pressure water would exert on it being slammed into. Reverse curve might work well for this.
Squeeze the fish when it's thawed out, do you see what i'm hinting at? Don't be afraid to squish it a bit, and fill your sink up and try to push the fish as a Pike would strike it,It'll help you understand it a bit. When you carve your form, your leaving a bit of x-tra clay under the strike zone, for the dent, * you must try to fit her in as close as you can,(Bite marks DO show) and you might want to do the bait fish first, Because of painting issue, I'd personally have the walleye done first, then, mask of the walleye,(avoiding over-spray)when you have the Pike done, push her in,gently to check the fit, if you did this correctly, it'll most likely, hold, and by the way, if you can, go with a side to back fin cut, to hide the cut, and don't forget to DETAIL that cut,and detail all those scales, and the throat of the pike as well ! can't hurt going over the top on this mount. Be creative !
Now let's see what the other guys have to add... Good Luck.
