Sealing a skull mount without turning it yellow

Submitted by Mike Kemmerer on 2/20/01. ( okie@strato.net ) 209.26.139.203

I am working on a skull mount. I wanted to seal it in order to keep the bone from absording dirt, grime, etc. over time. Everything I have tried so far makes the bone look like it has fat in it. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks Mike.

I have had excellent results with clear lacquer; apply several
light coats. I just buy rattle cans from the hardware store.

You can get it from Menards. Don't use polyurethanes.

I use this in thin coats but make shure you degrease with dawn after bleaching out and let dry before aplying, stays pretty white and mod-podge is cheap and can be found at any craft store. good-luck!
