Is the 40% hydrogen peroxide used in bleaching skulls a cream or a liquid. I recently purchased some of this peroxide from a beauty supply house and was surprised it was a creamy consistency. Will this work to bleach skulls?
Thanks for your time

WASCO sells sal soda for prepping the skulls. Pharmacies sell a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution that is used in conjunction (by some) with magnesium carbonate added to bleach skulls. The product you have keeps blondes blonde. (It is for hair.) Magnesium carbonate can be purchased through most taxidermy supply houses. Hydrogen peroxide (3%) is sold in drug stores. Used alone it will get the job done. If the skull is large, it can be wrapped with medicinal cotton and set into a pan of the peroxide. The cotton will wick the bleach up and around the surface if you don't want to purchase enough to cover the skull completely. Best results are had by using a plastic, glass or ceramic container.
Although I prefer the clear liquid peroxide, 40 volume, the creamier one works fine. Mentally I could see the clear stuff penetrating better. But I have used the creamy one with no adverse results. The 3% (drug store type) talked about in Cur's post is for your minor infections and it takes about a week to bleach bone and is sold in tiny bottles. The 40 volume is not an actual % but a measure of strength for the Beauty industry. Actual 35% (AND BE CAREFUL WITH IT!) is usually cut down with water by 1/2 when used for bone work and can be purchased at a chemical supply house. It will eat the flesh right off your fingers full strength.
Thanks for the help.
