I have a Whitetail Deer cape that I got in early archery season in the beginning of Oct. I've fleshed it and salted it very well, but neglected to freeze it or do anything else with it. Will this cape be any good to tan or should I try to find another to replace it. How long will a cape hold up and will the hair slip when I try to do anything with it. Thanks.
Hello Mike,
If you've dry salted it, it should be perfectly fine as the salting will help lock the hair in.
SImply wet it back in a brine solution and you're good to go with your pickling and then tanning.
Congrats on your harvest,
Dave
Thanks for the info. Got a nice buck and going to try to mount it. Once again Thanks. Mike
