Moose bell question

Hey, do any of you know what the bell that hangs from a moose's neck is for? Had someone looking at a moose mount and wondering if it serves any functional purpose, like to store fat? Show off good health like a large rack would? Do the bells get bigger with age? Just wondering if anybody knows.

A MOOSE'S BELL IS USED DURING THE RUT. DURING THE RUT WHILE MAKING A SCRAPE THE BULLS USE THE BELL TO SOAK UP URINE FROM THE SCRAPE. (ALONG WITH THE REST OF THEIR BODY) IT ALSO IS A SOCIAL STATUS. THE BULL WITH THE BIGGER BELL USUALLY IS THE DOMINANT BULL. AT LEAST UNTIL OLD AGE SETS IN. THEY DO GROW WITH AGE.

Thanks Stephen for the awesome information! I really appreciate it, now I can give people a decent answer when they ask "what is that thing for?" Thank you again for taking the time to respond.
