Help needed with Red Stag Form

Submitted by Dan Peterson on 1/28/02. ( dan@snbt.com ) 24.164.230.158

I have a Red Stag Head from Argentenia to mount. Can anyone tell me where to order a form or if an elk form might work? Also, what can be done to stop a tanned hide from molding? It is a model kayak from Argentenia made by a native there and now it is beginning to mold with black spots. Any help would be appreciated!

Elk will work fine.

Have done several of these over the years. Small elk forms are usually fine, some may even need to have the head length reduced.

Seal the kayak with clear lacquer. Removing the mold will be the hard job, try lloking at walmart for mold and mildew remover and go sparingly.

You obviously haven't looked very hard for red deer forms. McKenzie, Precision, Van Dykes and Research all have them. An elk MAY fit, but there are peculiarities in the stag that won't come through if you don't get a stag form. Red deer are similar to Mule deer with mule heads on them. Buy the right form.

Take george's advice, if you use an elk form you will have to alter it to much I have never seen a good mounted red deer on a elk form yet we mount 70% red deer in our shop good luck.
