Summer coat?

Just curious if there is a good way to sew up the hide from a shoulder mount buck without the hair sticking up . This buck was killed in early Season and has short hair. I don't like my stiches to show( or where I actually sewed). I carve out a small canal below the stich line.( in the form) I then fill it with critter clay. I did one like that and it looked fine but still the hair stuck up a little which I don't like. I even do small stiches.Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Brian

Brian, I posted this question a few years back and got the same answers you just did. They didn't work then either, LOL. A short haired deer is just about impossible to hide them. You can beat them down like African and recreate the hair pattern and airbrush. Perhaps the best solution that I've yet to try is to make only an incision between the antlers. Carefully pry the skin away from the antler pedicels and chisel the skull cap off. Then remove the hide. Mounting id completed the same way as a doe would be and the only seam visible will be the thin line under the longest hair the animal has: on its head. Good luck.

Brian,
It may also be possible that your binding to much hair into your stitching.Make a special effort to be sure that as little hair as possible gets cought up into your cape thread. This may help with much of the problems you're experiencing.

Have a good day,
Dave
