I received nine rams in and two of them are called Merinos. The both of them are big, 7 1/4 eye to nose and 22 plus on the neck. Need forms, McKenzie makes a smaller size, a little to small. Next anyone try to get one tanned commercially. So far no luck. They have heavy wool and they stink. The tanneries I called dont work on them. Anyone work with these smelly beast, help please...Paul

Merino's are just domestic sheep and that's the name of the breed, much like Gurnsey's and Jerseys in cows and Berkshires in pigs. Go to the archives for a tannery. Bruce Rittel left on on here just a few weeks back that specializes in sheep capes.
Paul, I do several of these wooly-bully's as I call them. New Method fur dressers does a good job with these sheep, as far as the form goes I have used dall sheep forms for them in the past,on the larger ones. With very little alterations. Hope this helps. Tim Ü
Hi Paul we have 1000.s of them here in New Zealand they mount up on the mkc mould alright so ive been told, one thing with the merino they stretch heaps! so don't be to worried if you have to much skin around the neck they have so much wool on them that it won't be noticed
when you mount it up from just behind the nostrils to in front of the eyes they have a lot of wrinkles going down the bridge of the nose
you can take up a bit of the face skin there the wrinkles are very pronounced on the rams hope this helps send me a email if you get stuck i mount around 30 to 40 theae a year.

Van Dykes sells a larger merino form than McKenzie.
...for all your help, much appreciated. Paul
I take in several a year and the truly big ones look good on a Dall/Stone sheep mannikin from McKenzie.
