I was wondering when you get done pickling the hide should you let it dry completly before you put on the tanning oil or do it wet?
Thanks

If a person is going to learn on how to tan why don't they buy the many books or videos on the market. Besides that the information here that is written is a book in itself. Just click on the hunter orange button and type in tanning.
Now that's said and yes I'm being a real smart A$$ but if you plan on tanning you do need to get the info first and learn and understand on how to do it before you start the process. Read, watch, read again and again till you understand it. Though there's no stuid question and yours isn't but a litte time spent in reading would help you out quite well.
It's real simple after the pickle you neturlize, tan and then add the tanning oil.
Tanning oil does nothing for a pickled hide and never let a pickled hide dry out. You need to tanit with whatever your going to tan the hide with and from there add the tanning oils after it's tanned. If you can't get to work on it just leave it in the pickle till your ready for the tanning process. Keep your pickle at 2.0 and it will be good for real long time. Some of us have hides in a pickle for over a year and longer with no problems. But if you need to get rid or have gotten rid of the pickle, just fold the hide in half and freeze it till your ready to tan the hide.
i would do it if it was wet because it would smell it you let it dry like in the sun or something.
Let the hide get thirsty looking after you pickle it and then add your tanning solution.
