I've used liquid blueing (the stuff used to whiten laundry or little old ladies' hair) to help whiten mountain goat and the white patch on a whitetail's throat with good results, but am considering trying to whiten skulls with it instead of or in conjunction with peroxide. Does anyone have any experience with this before I give it a try?

I use it on my show chickens to get them real white. If your going to try it use very very little. The first time I did it my birds were blue and I only used about 4 drops in a 20 gallon tub, but it does make them pure white. I'd try it first on somthing like a snowshoe hare to see how it works before somthing expensive like a deer or mountain goat. I'd hate to have ya turn one of your customers price mountain goats blue.Haha I'd say try it and see if it works.Chase
Chase,
Thanks, but I've been using blueing for some time on fur with great results. Now, I'm trying to find out if anyone has used it on skulls, and if so, did they use it instead of or with peroxide and how, and what were the results.
I just got a couple of snow geese out to a customer and they had some slightly rusty looking stains on the belly feathers(it was when I got them in)Just for future use ,I'd like to know where you find the bluing.
Chuck,
You get it at the grocery store in the laundry section. The brand I get is Mrs. Stewart's concentrated liquid bluing. It's non-toxic and bio-degradable. If you get some (and it's really cheap) try some in your laundry whites before trying it on birds so you get an idea how potent this stuff is in whitening (and bluing). Blue is an important color in whitening paper products. You can get more info at www.mrsstewart.com.
I'm hearing everyone say that bluing liquid is good to whiten clothing, however, what about hard water? I recently moved out to the country, and the well water has turned, in a matter of weeks, all of whites to a dull, dingy, yellowish color. Would bluing help for this as well? Anyone have any other inexpensive suggestions? I would appreciate it! Thanks.
