hi, i am new to taxidermy. i mounted a deer for practice. the problem is the antlers i used look to small for the size of the cape. what i want to know is can i rehydrate the mount, take the anlers out and put in another set? i would like to do this without affecting the rest of the mount including the eyes. how do i go about it? i thought this could be a valuable learning expierience for me if it can be done. i should add that the hide was liqua tanned and has been mounted a couple months. thanks

I have done it with Elk. At the Y incision and around the antler bases spray with water and saturate. Lay a wet towel on this ares and bag the head. Watch closely. Cut open your stitches and lay open hide, keeping this area wet. Break out plaster or clay, remove antlers and replace with new antlers, replace plaster or clay and sew up. LOL
