Do you need to wash a comercialy tanned hide
after rehydrating in a one handfull/gallon of water
solution and sweating over night?

I would'nt. Some tans are easy to wash out of a skin , some leech out but very slowely, others like E-Z-100 and Liquatan cannot be washed out. If you do it , make it gentle and for a very short time. Good luck. B.Bishop
