I mounted two Really big cape buffalo for a client several years ago. Now the hides are cracking. The cracking starts right at the base of the horns in front goes directly down the side of the face...then it makes a turn going across the ear butt and down the side of the neck. I pushed the orange button and found nothing there. I mounted several other species with these buffalo...but they are all fine. Glue was used on these animals and as far as I can tell there is no drumming. What could cause this? Is there a way to fix these skins and if there is what are the chances it'll reoccur?

That sounds pretty typical of dry heat and a poor tan.
I would repair it with Seam paste from Epo-Grip. Ruff up each side of the crack. Maybe even hide brads in the crack its self at angles.
