hi,

I am planning on going to the school you went to in the fall. what did you think of it? do u learn everything from tanning to fleshing? did you bring your own specimans? where do you recommend I stay at? did you do any hunting? is it worth the money? how many mounts did you make? give me the pros and cons of the school. what was paul like?

I would really appreciate the advice

Hate to break it to you, but taxidermy isn't F**king rocket science and it isn't that hard to learn. I've seen people do great work with very little experience and I've seen people do crappy work with 20 years experience. Don't be so negative to people who are trying to learn. And if your such an expert maybe you should put your business name on here so we can come and check out your work! And I happen to know Wile-ee Coyote does great work!

I did get your email and ill send one back.and don't worry about the negative crap you hear sometimes, some people like to think that they are the only ones that can do taxidermy, but it is not hard to learn all the basics. and then after that its up to you.i dont know what people think someone wanting to learn should do. you have to do it one step at a time and you have taken the first step.

hey there you taxidermy god, you can come down to my shop and have a look at my work any time. maybe you can give me some pointers, and then maybe we could come and have a look at your work, since my work is a joke you should not mind me seeing yours.my shop is in McCreary manitoba and it is Easy to find.where is yours, and what is your name?
There is always more to learn in taxidermy, i don't know it all and i know you don't either. all you can do is learn the basics and work your ass off to improve. you must not have seen wile-ee's work or you would not be so negative toward his training. sorry if i'm being a bit of a prick but you seem to be acting like one.
p.s CHEER UP!
hope to get to see some of your work.

hey canadian

This response submitted by paul on 04/01/2003. ( ) 142.161.128.92

you were so quick to put my work down and you seem to think you know way more than wile-ee coyote, yet you don't seem to be in a big hurry to give me your name. i just would like to have a look at your work so i can compare it to some of my students like wile-ee.
i told you my name and where my shop is, why don't you come down and see my work. i stand behind my work and the comments i made about you why don't you do the same, or keep your negative comments to yourself.
these guys that are just starting out are going to think that all other taxidermists are just like you, and the fact is that some of us try to help them. at least post your shop's name.

Training

Glad to see some Taxidermist's are getting paid to train people. I had
a posting on the national job bank looking for someone to work with me
in my shop and learn taxidermy and I would pay them. I got 2
applications in 2 months. I hired one of them this week. We do mostly
big game. It takes time to learn. You have to learn the basics first.
Then you go practice what you learn and you get better at what
you are doing. I have been in this industry for 28 years and I am still
learning and improving, So don't get discouraged just keep on trying
and your work will improve. By the way If you wonder what my work is like
visit my web site at www.newfoundlandwildlife.com If you have any
questions feel free to contact me.

thanks, it's nice to here from someone who isn't jealous, or paranoid
i don't know why but there are alot of people who act like taxidermy is some big secret that should not be shared with anyone. i love my job and i hope all the people who are getting into it get as much out of it as i do, and with all these people on these forums it will be better for beginers than ever.
i get all kinds of comments like "Those who can't, teach" or " why are you flooding the market, there's not enough work as it is"
or some real BRAINS who say "you can't just LEARN taxidermy." i agree but you can LEARN the basics, and take it from there.
those of us who are already doing taxidermy don't have any more right to be doing it than someone who wants to start.
ps i saw your web site, nice work!
