Anyone have suggestions on the best way to attach the skull to the wood panel for a European mount. I'm talking about not only deer but other animals such as sheep, hogs, etc.

You need to cut off a hole where the brain cavity is ,then cut a piece of plywood the same size and shape as the hole, use bondo or a good fast drying epoxy and glue that wood inside the hole, you now have someting to screw the panel to.
Just did one last night. The panel is oak and I mounted a whitetail skull to the panel. I cut a pice of 5/16" dowel and stained to match the plaque. I drilled a 5/16" hole in the skull, right behind the opening where the spine connected in that flat spot. I inserted the dowel through the drilled hole and positioned the skull on the plaque. I marked the spot where the dowel contacted the plaque AND the correct angle. Drilled the angled hole in the plaque but not all the way through. Mixed up some good epoxy and set the dowel. It is on the plaque well and the little bit of the dowel that you can see( from the right viewing angle) looks SO much better than screw threads.
