Need some help. Had a cust bring me his elk to mount but had alot of dry velvet the cust wanted removed. I soaked the antlers to soften the velvet and power washed the velvet off. The problem is now the horns stink. Is there a product that can be applied to stop the smell or will they quit smelling when they are dried out. Also what do you recommmend to use to color the horns back. They are badly stained at the tips of the tines, can a person us basic white to get the white back in the tips. Thanks for the help.

Check out beginners catagory under the title how to darken antlers. I would avoid painting the tips white, tried it and it did not work well for me (maybe it was just me!) Try hanging it outside for a couple of days sometimes thats enough to get rid of the smell. If not hopefully some of these other guys can help you out.Good luck.
