can anyone tell me how they like this stuff. I recently bought a gallon just to try on some gameheads, and when opening the container I noticed it has a thick consistency and is very gritty. is this how it is supposed to be. It would seem to be hard to taxi over. Am I wrong about this, or should I give it a chance. I'm thinking of sending it back and getting a smoother paste.I like to try new methods and materials, but I dont want to be in for a fight. BTW, great site, and appriciate all the sound advice found here.

As far as the ability to taxi the skin, it taxies easily, no problem there. It also holds well. Sometimes pinning and carding is needed to avoid drumming. It dries slow, which gives ample time to adjust and readjust your hide as needed. Some say that it can rehidrate with humid conditions and start drumming yrs down the road. Now this I havent seen, and I am in the humid state of Fl. I guess the biggest argument against it is that there are more modern epoxies that hold with no drumming period, ever. But then again you still need to follow correct procedures. Last year I did some work for another taxidermist here. I used Epo-Grip on one deer that did drum up on the face. Now the cape was fleshed and shaved using my flesher, it was then washed and dry preserved (as thats what he uses). But I believe the big problem here was that it was "power dried" with a fan and dehumidifier. I am guessing thats where things went bad, as it was the only deer out of the 5 that drummed. Just so happened that he needed THAT deer on THAT week all of the sudden. I will guarentee that the other hide pastes would have drummed under those conditions too.
