Damaged boars ears

Submitted by Ty Penniman on 04/09/2003. ( torka@together.net ) 64.91.164.158

Am preparing to mount a nice boar I shot in Florida and one of the ears has a large split in it. (Partially healed over) What is the best way to deal with it ?
Question #2 After I tan the hide ( useing Lutan F and Soft Tan oil ) is it neccessary to tumble the hide ?
Any info will be a great help! Thanks

If I were doing it , I would split the ear and resew the split back into a whole ear, or if the customer wants to leave the split then I use the bondo method as you can spread bondo even into every little corner of the rip ear.

Penning;
I've had A lot of those. I just turn the ear, and leave it as is. If you use Bondo just make sure you press the Bondo into where the split is. If your using ear liners, when removing the cartilage keep it and cut your liner to match the cartilage. Hope this helps
