I have a customer who wants me to mount a bison. I am unsure of what to charge. I get $350 for deer. This will be my first bison and I am sure I will think that I did not charge enough by the time I am finished. Although I am still a rookie, I feel that I am up to this challenge. Anyone care to give their advise on bisin pricing?
Thanks, Paul

Simple math from there on out.
LOT more work! I highly suggest sending the cape out to be tanned. Once that's done, it's not too bad a job to do.
And make sure your mounting stand is really sturdy. The one I've used for years decided to buckle from the weight of a large bison! I had it on a stand that has a circular area with holes in it on one end, that fits into a 'split' tube, and is held in position by a small rod, bolt, whatever. Bent the 'split' sides of the tubing on each side of the circular area. Won't use that stand again for a bison! Definitely not heavy-duty enough for a big brute. (It holds elk ok, though!)
I get a Bison once a year on average, a Cape Buffalo seem to find me too. I set my prices higher than most, the hides are heavy, take extra time and honestly hurt my back to move them around. So I set a base price of $1250.00 for Bison and $1500.00 for Cape Buffalo. Then if they want open mouth its $300.00 additional. Ped. Mounts are base priced at $1950.00.
The end results is I feel very satisfied with the end product and can take the extra time thats needed to groom a Bison or pin the many wrinkles of the Cape Buff.
Price it too low and you will have more of them coming in than you can handle!
$1,250 it is a fair price
Thanks for your replies. And Vicki, thanks for your advise about the mounting stand. I have one that I made and as I normally do with metal work, I went overboard on metal thickness, so I think I will be ok there.
