Gentlemen,
I need some advice concerning the Cape Buffalo horns.
Can I take out them of the skull bone, if I boil them, or it is not possible?
Thanks, and best wishes from Bulgaria to all participants in the Forums

Valentin,
You cannot remove the horn from the bone core of the horn. Make sure that the area around the boss of the horn is very clean and no meat or skin is still attached. Get a tin of pipe tobacco and soak it in a quart of water for about a day. I know this sounds funny...but bugs cannot stand that taste of this stuff and will stay away from your mounts. I treat all african game with it and have had good luck with it now for some 20 years. Anyway when you are done soaking the tobacco...strain the liquid into a jar and pour down the inside of the horn all the way around both of them. Let dry for a day or two and it will be ready to mount. I once recieved 2 buffs from africa and one of them had a horn broken from one side. When I inspected it closer I found that the bone core inside the horn had completely been pulverized by something. Reattaching it back to what I had left to work with was a real chore. So you really don't want to remove them. Just make sure that you clean them the bext that you can...put the tobacco juice down inside them and mount. Good luck and have a Happy Easter.
Thank you very much for the advice Ken,I really apreciate it!
Best wishes!
Valentin
