bloody antelope

Submitted by Mark on 04/18/2003. ( ) 68.103.91.254

I have several antelope to mount and the first two had blood stains that apparantly soaked up into the hair because it didn't wash out. What can I do to get rid of it on the brown and on the white? Thankyou.

Finding it in the archives may be tricky, but it's there. The hollow antelope hair suck blood up by osmosis and bleaching the hair serves no use except to make the already brittle hair, more brittle. That's why it's imperative for the hunter to keep the hide away from pools of blood on antelope.

That antelope hair will also absorb hide paste. I read somewhere to use a white dextrine hide paste on antelope because the hair will absorb it and start to discolor. Not sure if this is true or not, just something I read.
