Plugging ears

I was just wondering if it is important to fill the inside of the ear
butt of any big game mount after it is mounted! You know were you trimmed the ear but off and after you set the ear if you stick your finger down in the ear canal you have that hole to the form or clay? This is for coustomer work! Could it be a bug issue with the openning?

Thanks Andy

Not a bug issue

Dermistids don't need an orifice to get in, they MAKE one. I never finish the interior ear on commercial work unless it's a "paint job" hide with little or no hair. God, I love Northern tier whitetails.

You got that right George, we have no problem with the inside of an ear. Years ago I entered a deer head in competition, no way you could see into the ear. But just to be on the safe side, I filled the ear holes with caulk the day I took the deer to the show. After the judging was done I asked the judge if he got a surprise with a deer head. Sure enough, since he couldn't see into most ears he stuck a finger in them. I still got a blue ribbon. And we, the judge and I, laugh about it everytime we run into each other.
