This may be silly to all, but I don't know. I have someone who wants an old mount recaped. But he said, make sure you get a buck cape, he then asked if I knew how to tell. I had to admit, I had never heard of that before. He proceeded to tell me, now I am asking to find out whats the truth. rw

If I'm not mistaken( and I could be) the does don't have the gland on their face marked by a black patch of hair.Someone more familiar with them could probably give you other differences.
And a doe hide "probably" wouldn't have cutouts for horns either. Some does do have small horns but the ones I've seen actually floated on their head hair instead of having a core into the skull.
I must not of heard him right, he said the bucks have a black patch on their forehead, that kind of made me wonder, and I am not one to counter my elders, ( though I might have to start),I had never noticed that before. So I just told him I did'nt know that. I might have to get my ears checked, because a week earlier, he asked me if I did much fish, I thought asked me if I did much fishing, I told him no, only bluegills in the back pond, the other day, when he asked about the antelope, he then said he had a 48" musky, that he needed someone to mount for him also, and wanted to know if I new anyone. Now you can laugh George.

Some antelope under the size of 10" have a small almost unnoticable black check patch or gland. They haven't mature enough for the black patch to grow too noticable yet. The gland on the hide side should be there so look for it. If the antelope is bigger that 10" there should be a very noticable black patch just below and behind the check bone.
I have mounted several musky over the size of 48 inches so that doesnt sound to outlandish to me. And your antelope question an adult antelope buck has a noticeably large black patch below the back of his cheek. This question could have easily been answered very quickly by lookin in what they call a hunting magazine.
