I have had Dermestid Beetles working on a skull which is in an aquarium. My wife makes me keep them outside and recently it seems like the bugs have drammatically been reduced. I still have larvae and adults, but the numbers are drastically smaller. I have had ants getting in for the past month and didn't notice them bothering any of the bugs so I left them alone. Now I'm afraid the ants have destroyed my colony. I'm planning on ordering new cultures, but how do I keep the ants out? I was thinking of placing a lot of borax or powdered poison under the aquarium. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have a screen top over it? They make them in various sizes to fit aquariums. Check with a pet supply store that sells aquariums. Get the kind that has the fine "window" screen in them. If you can't find one, you can make your own pretty easily with screen and wood. If the ants are really small, you may have to use mosquito netting.
Also, I've heard you can smear a little vaseline around the top of a hummingbird feeder to deter ants. Might try some of that around the top/sides of the aquarium...
Thanks, I might try the mosquito netting or vasoline. I do have a screen over it now, which is of a pretty fine mesh. Also it gets about 110F here. Is that too hot for the buggers?
