Form sanding

Submitted by Ray on 07/11/2003. ( lkbridg@castlenet.com ) 205.161.201.7

Does anyone know an easy way to prep forms? I use a stout ruffer, but would be interested to know if anyone has come up with a quicker way of preparing the forms for proper hyde paste adhersion.

Thanks, Ray

SOme on here dont think it works but there is not anyway to better sand your forms! A cheap gun cost less than $50.00. I use quartz sand for media and it $2.75 a 80 lb bag at the lumber yard or local rent all.

even cheaper...

Home Depot sells a sandblaster gun for less than $20.00. Add your own hopper or actually it says it doesn't require one. Don't know how good it works but it's all you need except sand and air... I'm sure it would hold up just doing light duty form prep. What's to lose? I know I've blown more than $20.00 on worse ideas!

And even better

WASCO sells a Form Scratcher and it is excellent for prepping the forms. No glue(form prep) and no sand to sweep up. Just a few minutes and your form is in super shape. Rick Carter clued me in on that one and it's the best $10 I never spent. (Thanks Rick for the gift).

Just your opinion George, I like sand blasting!

Leave a nice even gluable texture over the complete form so quick. Yes I have used the form scrathers and nothing compares in my OPINION.

LMAO John

But YOUR opinion deals with guys who have been known to snort too much glue fumes. A great way to ruin a form is to hold that trigger down just a few seconds too long and a 19 inch deer becomes a 17 incher. That doesn't happen with the scratcher. And don't you dare tell me about common sense. We both know that ain't so common anymore. LOL.

tried em all

And I agree with John - you can't do better than sand blasting. Quick, easy and best of all it 'opens' up the foam for a good base to stick to.
