I just started in taxidermy and have begun with the dry preserve method when dry preserving a deer head should it be salted and refleshed before preserving it or is it best to just preserve it green and mount it? or any other hints or tactics others use would be quite helpfull.

If you are using DP(dry preservative) then salt is not a word that should ever enter your conversations. Salt is counter productive to DP. Forget it ever existed. Flesh, DP, and mount.
Thank U George I am new to the field and thank u for your insite
Hi, Rick
This is the steps i use when I use DP. While you are fleshing the cape and turning the eye's, ears, etc, use borax. Once you are done with that put 3 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket. Add 3 caps full of basycril and Kemal 4 and wash the cape. Let the cape soak for 20 minutes, no longer. After that is done rinse the cape. Then pull the cape out and let it drain for 30 minutes. When that is done go ahead and put your Dry preserve on the cape. If you don't have enought time to mount it you can either put it in the refrigerator til the next day or put it in the freezer and mount latter. Hope this helps. MichelleW
PS if you need any more help please feel free to E-mail me.
I forgot. after it has drained for 30 minutes roll it up in a towel and let it set for 20 mor minutes.
